Why Music

Bravura Music Academy:
For those looking for  music instruction and programs with an emphasis on learning the joy of music performance.  Bravura is a Suzuki based music academy focusing on a classical, baroque and music theater repertoire with instruction in violin, viola, cello, guitar, recorder, flute, clarinet, saxophone, voice, piano and music theory.

Wondering if music is right for your child?  We have several introductory music programs such as Young Musicians for ages 4-6, Music Adventurers  and Summer and Day Camp opportunities for elementary age children to dip thier toes in before taking the plunge.

Bravura
What does Bravura mean? (bra-voo-rah) a display of daring,  a brilliant performance, having flare, a magnificence in poise.

The Bravura Music Center, established in 1992, has expanded to include the new Music Academy!   Students in the Academy attend weekly private and group lessons, and perform in recitals in the local area.  Currently we offer classes in Suzuki violin, Suzuki viola, Suzuki cello, traditional strings, voice, guitar, keyboards & piano, woodwinds and theory.

Introductory Music Courses like our Young Musicians and Music Adventurers are a unique introduction to music for children.  They  can explore the world of music with classes that include theory & composition, ear training, rhythm reading, bell ensemble, elementary piano, music & movement,  and introduction to the string & woodwind families.   This course is designed to help children and parents with an interest in getting started in music, find the best fit for success with an instrument.   This curriculum would serve as a comprehensive music course for home schooling families to consider for thier yearly school music course.

Why do you want your child to study music?
Whether you have a clear answer or just a vague notion that it might just be important we hope this website and our school can help answer some of your questions.

Why music?
Every culture without exception from the most primitive hunter-gather society to the most advanced technical super power expresses its culture through music.  And this is true not only now but as far back as anthropologists can track human beings.

Across the world we spend more time making and listening to music than we do making and eating food.  In the developed world we spend more money on music as well.

Even in the most horrendous circumstances, such as the Nazi concentration camps of WWII, for many of the survivors, according to Victor Frankl, making music, among other creative endeavors, gave life meaning and made survival possible.

Why? What makes music so special?
There are many theories but scientist still struggle with explaining the power of music.  What can't be denied is the importance of music to being fully human.

Our goal and mission at Bravura Music Academy is to find and to help others find the best of what it means to be truly human through the study of music.

Over the years we have watched children experience the beauty of music and through the vessel of a musical instrument or a music ensemble develop self-esteem, confidence, discipline and a wide range of emotions and sensitivities.   Music isn’t easy to learn but the struggles and joys of learning music can forge the kind of noble character we all wish for our children.
